Radio BOA: A Trilingual Voice Uniting Brittany through DAB+
Brittany’s radio landscape has taken a bold and innovative turn with the arrival of Radio BOA, a unique regional and trilingual station that brings communities together through the power of sound. Officially launched on July 12, 2023, Radio BOA was born from the Coordination des Radios Locales et Associatives de Bretagne (CORLAB). Broadcasting via DAB+, it now reaches listeners in multiple Breton cities, offering crystal-clear audio and a shared cultural space that reflects the region’s diversity.
Radio BOA is the result of an extraordinary collective project involving fifteen local partner stations, including Canal B, C-Lab, Fréquence 8, Plum’FM, Radio Activ’, Radio Balises, Radio Bro Gwened, Radio Évasion, Radio Kerne, Radio Naoned, Radio Kreiz Breizh, Radio Laser, Radio Parole de Vie, Radio U, Station Millenium, and Timbre FM. This collaboration allows audiences across Brittany to enjoy the variety and richness of local programming through a single regional frequency, breaking down barriers between communities while amplifying their voices.
One of Radio BOA’s defining features is its commitment to language diversity. True to Brittany’s cultural heritage, the station broadcasts in Breton, Gallo, and French. At present, programming includes around three hours in Breton, one hour and twenty minutes in Gallo, and five hours in French every two weeks, with plans to expand its regional language content. This multilingual approach not only preserves linguistic traditions but also celebrates them in a modern, accessible way.
Thanks to DAB+ technology, Radio BOA is accessible in cities such as Rennes, Brest, Quimper, Lorient, Vannes, Saint-Brieuc, Châteaulin, Fougères, and Ploërmel. The deployment of this network has been made possible with support from the Brittany Region and European funding, ensuring that the station’s mission reaches as many listeners as possible.
Beyond technical innovation, Radio BOA carries a strong editorial vision. Its programming is open and eclectic, blending contemporary music, cultural features, and social topics. The station is particularly attentive to themes such as ecological transition, social innovation, and emerging music scenes. By producing its own shows and sharing content from its partner stations, Radio BOA mirrors Brittany’s cultural vibrancy and social dynamism.
In just a short time, Radio BOA has positioned itself as a pioneering force in Breton media. By combining collaboration, linguistic pride, and cutting-edge broadcasting technology, it offers a fresh and unifying voice for the entire region—one that is both deeply rooted in local culture and forward-looking.
